Get to Know Your Guide: Meet Kaitlin Geagan

We are delighted to welcome our new Tour Director — Kaitlin Geagan — to Unicorn Tours.

Kaitlin is a Massachusetts native, born and raised in Mansfield. She enjoys being active outside, especially running, skiing, hiking, and camping. And we recommend asking her about Riley, her orange cat (photo below).

As she steps into the role of leading our tours, we asked her a few quick questions about her own travels and adventures:

What inspired your love of travel?

I would say my dad, but not in the conventional sense. He was diagnosed with leukemia when I was 18 years old, and seeing him go through the treatments, and eventually lose the battle, changed my perspective on life. I saw how little time we have and was inspired to get out, see new places, and try to do something I love every day.

What’s your favorite place you’ve visited?

It’s hard for me to pick favorites. I try to find something unique and special in every destination. However, a place I will always have a connection with is Big Sky Montana where I lived for five years while I was a guide at Yellowstone National Park.

It was so interesting to watch the park change from season to season. Between the hot springs, geysers, wildlife, wildflowers, and mountains there was always something different about every tour.

If you could travel with any celebrity (dead or alive), who would it be and why?

I would love to travel with David Attenborough. The work he’s done in building awareness around conservation and the diversity of the natural world is extraordinary. I would love to have him come along on a trip and tell me all about the flora and fauna in the area.

Kaitlin’s Travel Superlatives

  • Dream destination: Norway, Greenland, Finland, or Antarctica. I love a cold climate. I also like visiting U.S. National Parks. So, any new park I can check off my list.
  • Top New England spot: A place I love and don’t visit enough is the White Mountains. I love North Conway and would love to hike Mount Washington one day.
  • Best travel snack: Anything light and high energy like jerky, granola, and gorp (aka trail mix for hikers).
  • Go-to souvenir: Magnets that look like vintage posters.
  • Favorite travel story: I once bought a one-way ticket to Iceland for a volunteer project. I was doing a volunteer project and lived in a tent between two glaciers for two and a half months.

We’re delighted to have Kaitlin on board, and can’t wait for you to meet her on your next tour.

And now, the cat photo you’ve been waiting for … meet Riley.
