We’ll journey through three of the most beautiful southwestern states - Nevada, Utah, and Arizona.

                Day 1 – Wednesday, September 6
Fly Boston into Phoenix to start our trip and return from Las Vegas (Airline TBA)

Upon our early afternoon arrival at Phoenix’s Sky Harbor Airport, we’ll board our bus for a 2-hour scenic drive to Sedona for our first two nights. The route climbs to an elevation of 5,000 feet for panoramic views as we approach stunning Sedona. Welcome Dinner, 2 Nights Real Inn & Suites, Sedona, AZ

                Day 2 – Thursday, September 7
We’ll begin our visit with a narrated Trolley Tour to learn the history and geology of this uniquely beautiful red rock landscape. Included is the popular wedding Chapel of the Holy Cross perched high above the valley floor surrounded by beautiful rock formations.

There will be time for shopping and lunch (on own) in the heart of the town and to join our Optional Pink Jeep Tour ($60 additional cost per person) that will take you on an exciting off-road OR gentler on-road experience (it’s your choice) for a close-up look at the interesting formations and fabulous views high above the valley floor.

No passport will be needed for our exciting Out of Africa Safari tour this afternoon. We’ll board an open-air bus for a guided tour through the habitats of wild animals from all regions of the Dark Continent. Have your cameras ready so not to miss the perfect action photo along our route.

Next, a visit to the quaint mining town of Jerome is planned that offers a panoramic view of the valley far below.  There will be time to browse the shops before heading back to Sedona for dinner (on own). B

                Day 3 – Friday, September 8
We’ll depart Sedona via beautiful Oak Creek Canyon with a spectacular photo stop at the top and a chance to shop for authentic handmade Navajo jewelry and crafts. This morning we’ll travel along a section of historic Route 66 with a stop in Williams for lunch (on own) and to find the perfect “Mother Road” souvenir.

By mid-afternoon we’ll arrive at the Main Gate of Grand Canyon National Park and begin at the park Visitor Center. Here you’ll view an informative film about the history and geology of the canyon, museum, and board a park shuttle bus that will take us to the best location for sunset viewing – an experience that most consider the highlight of their visit. B, 2-Nights Holiday Inn Express & Suites Grand Canyon, Tusayan, AZ (outside Main Gate of Grand Canyon National Park)

                Day 4 – Saturday, September 9
We’ll spend a full day leisurely exploring along the rim of the Canyon with our expert Local Guide to answer all your questions. 5 million visitors from around the world are drawn here annually for its powerful and inspiring landscape and immense size. The 277 mile-long Colorado River snakes its way along the canyon floor continuing to carve the landscape as it has done for millions of years.  Our guide will lead us on walks along the canyon rim (flat with some gentle uphill). We’ll use the park’s shuttle bus system to reach all the major overlooks for the best views of the 1 mile deep and 18 mile wide wonder of the world. There will be time for lunch (on own) in Grand Canyon Village where you’ll find the perfect souvenirs of your visit.  B

                Day 5 – Sunday, September 10
Today we head to beautiful Lake Powell created by the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam. An exciting and gentle half-day float trip awaits us on the Colorado River that cuts through the towering walls of Glen Canyon.

Our comfortable 20-passenger raft is safely and expertly maneuvered down the river by highly trained oarsman who will share thrilling stories of early expeditions that traveled the same water route into history! We’ll pull-up on a sandy beach to enjoy a boxed lunch and a chance to examine ancient etchings on the canyon walls. B, Box Lunch, D, 2-Nights Holiday Inn Express, Page, AZ

                Day 6 – Monday, September 11
Today promises to be one of the most memorable of your tour. We’ll begin with an early morning flat walk through spectacular Antelope Slot Canyon. The morning light is the best time to experience the beautiful colors of the swirling sandstone that make up the canyon walls. This is Navajo land and the only way into the canyon is with our native Navajo guide. We’ll learn how it has taken millions of years of water rushing through the canyon to create this overwhelming natural beauty. Photographers from around the world flock to this place to try and capture the awesome beauty of the sandstone patterns bathed by shafts of light streaming down from cracks in the rocks above.

The afternoon continues to offer outstanding beauty as we begin exploring Monument Valley with our native Navajo guide. This is not a National Park but sacred Navajo land and the best way to explore it and be allowed into hidden places is with a native guide. During our 2 ½ hour driving guided tour throughout this vast site, we’ll learn the customs and beliefs of the Navajo people who still live and work the land as their ancestors did centuries ago. Our guide will take us into a traditional Hogan where sacred ceremonies are held and see native women weaving beautiful blankets using the same methods passed down through generations.

A sunset dinner will provide us with our last memory of this beautiful land before returning to the hotel. B, D

                Day 7 – Tuesday, September 12
Many experienced National Park visitors consider Bryce Canyon National Park to be the most beautiful in the entire park system. The park is known for its unique geology and formations called “hoodoos”, beautiful pink and red limestone walls and spectacular sunsets.

We’ll stop for leisurely level walks that follow the rim of the canyon to capture the perfect photo of this remarkable landscape and unforgettable sunset. By then you’ll be ready to sit back and relax over dinner at our hotel. B, D, Overnight Best Western Ruby Inn, outside Main Gate of Bryce Canyon National Park

                Day 8 – Wednesday, September 13
Following breakfast, we’ll depart for Zion National Park, Utah’s first national park. We’ll enter the park via 1.1 mile long Zion-Mount Carmel Tunnel that, when completed in 1930, was the longest tunnel in the United States. After a stop at the Visitor Center, we’ll board a park bus to take us to the entrance of the spectacular Zion Narrows. Here we’ll take a level walk along the floor of the canyon to experience the awe of the massive sandstone cliffs of cream, pink and red that soar high above.

Our western adventure comes to an end with an overnight stay at the fantastic Treasure Island Casino Resort Hotel in Las Vegas. This is the perfect central location for easy access to casinos and the glitzy lights of the strip that has made Las Vegas famous throughout the world. B, Overnight Treasure Island Resort, Las Vegas
