August 15-18, 2017
Tuesday – Friday
4 Days/3 Nights

Our visit begins at the Gettysburg National Park Visitor Center where a Local Guide will join us for a 2-hour driving tour of the battlefield. We’ll stop at the sites of Pickett’s Charge, Little Round Top, Robert E. Lee’s Memorial and more.  Our guide will recount stories that will bring alive the steamy hot days of July 1-3, 1863 when brother fought against brother in the cornfields, farmyards and streets of this sleepy Pennsylvania town.
We’ve arranged a Behind the Scenes Guided Tour of the famous “Cyclorama” painting that depicts the story of the bloody three-day battle.  This recently restored giant work of art was first displayed in Boston during the years following the Civil War and was given to Gettysburg National Park where it has resided for over half a century.
Skipping ahead a century, we’ll tour Eisenhower National Historic Site that was the home and farm of General and President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Located adjacent to the Gettysburg Battlefield, the farm served the President as a weekend retreat and a meeting place for world leaders. With its peaceful setting and view of South Mountain, it was a much needed respite from Washington and a backdrop for efforts to reduce Cold War tensions. You'll see every room, from the sun porch where the President entertained world leaders to the First Lady's entirely pink bathroom.
We have selected wonderful dinner venues during our stay including the historic Dobbins House and charming Hickory Bridge Farm.
Optional Gettysburg Evening: Gettysburg Candle Light Ghost Walk Tour - $15 per person – sign-up when booking tour.
While in Harrisburg, we’ll visit the National Civil War Museum which is the only museum in the United States that portrays the entire story of the Civil War without bias to Union or Confederate causes.
Switching gears, we’ll spend the day in Hershey – “the town built on Chocolate”.   Milton S. Hershey opened the world’s first modern chocolate factory in 1903 and built the “model town” for employees and their families so they would have an attractive place to live, work, and play. In the end, he didn’t just build a factory in the town that bears his name — he built a community. You’ll see and learn the remarkable legacy of this generous and progressive entrepreneur during our Trolley Ride with a local guide. Following the tour, you’ll have a chance to put all you’ve learned about chocolate to use by creating your own candy bar!
We’ve selected an 1888 Victorian Brownstone Mansion that is on the National Register of Historic Places for our memorable Farewell Dinner.
