AMTRAK's Scenic Dome Car
Albany, NY to Montreal Quebec
Lake Placid in Beautiful Adirondack Mountains

Oct 2 - 6
5 Days/4 Nights

Our tour begins with passenger pick-up at our usual departure locations at Haverhill, Lawrence, and Chelmsford
NOTE: Chelmsford is our only pick-up location where you may leave your car overnight – at your own risk

We’ll arrive at the Albany, NY Amtrak Station in time to board the 11:00 am train for a spectacular scenic journey along the New York State shore of Lake Champlain. Pack a lunch or visit the café car (limited menu) during the 5 ½ hour trip that will take us through historic small towns framed by the magnificent Adirondack Mountains and across the lake the beautiful Green Mountains of Vermont. Added to the splendor will be fall colors at their peak of radiance.
Passengers are free to come & go throughout the day in the upstairs dome car and the view is equally wonderful through the large windows at your assigned train seat.  During the day, train historians will provide commentary to entertain and educate you about sites along our route.  We’ll pass beaver lodges and dams and eagles perched on tree tops along the track so have cameras at the ready!
We’ll disembark the train at Rouses Point, NY and re-board our bus for crossing the border into Canada with only a short drive to our final destination of Montreal. Founded in 1642, Montreal is the largest city in Canada's Québec province, and is set on an island in the Saint Lawrence River and named after Mount Royal, the triple-peaked hill at its heart. Our hotel for 2 nights is located just two blocks from the Old Port.  We have selected a very popular restaurant for our Welcome Dinner.
Our Local Guide will join us for a morning driving tour of the city that boast the second largest French-speaking city outside of Paris. We’ll drive to the top of Mount Royal for a spectacular view of this city with a photo stop at Saint Joseph Oratory, the largest church in Canada with the 3rd largest Dome after St. Peter’s in Rome. You’ll learn the inspiring story of Brother Andre and see the massive staircase leading to the Basilica where pilgrims ascend on their knees saying a prayer on each step. The highlight of the morning will be a guided tour of stunning Notre Dame Cathedral where famous singer, and Montreal native, Celine Dion was married.
You’ll have time to explore the narrow alleys of the Old Port for unique shopping. You’ll have no difficulty in finding lunch on your own with all the wonderful restaurants that specialize in French Cuisine for which the city is famous.
We’ll visit the 1976 Olympic Stadium for a trip to the top of the famous leaning tower for the best view of the city and surrounding area.
Our last evening in the city will be at leisure to explore on your own  OR  join us for an evening at Montreal Casino where you can choose from four restaurants for dinner (on own) and try your luck at the slot machines or gaming tables.
Our route home will take us to Lake Placid, NY for an exciting 2-night stay to see all the sites. We’ll begin with a visit to awesome Ausable Chasm where we’ll walk the rim of the gorge before boarding rafts for a 1-mile gentle guided float trip into the deep chasm. There will be leisure time to enjoy the quaint downtown Lake Placid at your own pace.
During a morning tour with our Local Guide, we’ll learn the history of this charming town made famous by two Winter Olympic Games held here in 1932 and again in 1980 when the US Hockey team beat the USSR, a feat celebrated in the film “The Miracle on Ice”.  We’ll visit the Olympic Training Grounds where an elevator will whisk us to the top of the 120 meter Ski Jump Tower for an Olympians view as they position themselves for their run down the slope.
Our next stop will be Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort for a Gondola Ride to the 4,865’ summit. Grab your box lunch to eat at the top with a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains ablaze in autumn color. We’ve planned a memorable Farewell Dinner that is sure to please.
We have one last special attraction on this tour and that is a guided tour of Fort Ticonderoga that played an important role in the American Revolution. The 59 cannons and mortars that George Washington used to surround Boston Harbor and convince the British to evacuate (March 17, 1776 – Patriots Day) where dragged over 300 miles through heavy winter snow from this fort to Boston by Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys. You’ll also learn how the fort was captured from the British in May 1775 with the help of Benedict Arnold.
